This is a common question that we get asked as people think that lawn renovations can only be done in the spring! But as fall comes closer and closer, now is the perfect time to make sure that your lawn is more lush than ever by adding a few of our Fall Lawn Renovation Services. We offer a wide range of services so that you only have to call one company to take care of your beautiful lawn needs.
See below for a little background and information on the Fall Lawn Renovation Services we offer:
- Aeration/Overseeding – These services go hand in hand which is why we always offer them together. Aeration helps with compacted soil which contributes to lack of earthworms and other decomposing organisms which in turn leads to the accumulation of thatch. It removes cores of soil, leaving small holes or cavities in the lawn deep in the soil. This allows much needed nutrients, water, and oxygen to penetrate deeply into the roots of your lawn. Overseeding is great for filling in those bare spots in your lawn and compensates for the natural slow down of the turf’s reproduction. These two services thicken up your lawn which helps strangle out unwanted weeds!
- Soil pH Testing/Lime Application – Is your lawn weedy, patchy, or turning yellow in spots? This may be a sign that the pH balance of your yard is out of whack.
So let’s say your Scientific Soil Analysis & pH Test says you do need lime: what kind of lime do you need? This is also very important and can not be known without a soil test. There is both Calcidic OR Dolomitic Lime that can be used on a lawn. It is very important that if your soil test comes back saying that you need to amend your soil with lime you know the answer to two very important questions:
1: How much lime. (usually expressed in lbs per 1000)
2: What kind of Lime, Dolomitic or Calcific.
- Topdressing – Topdressing is the process of adding a thin layer of organic matter and the beneficial microorganisms of compost. It reduces lawn stresses, helps keep thatch under control, and acts as a long-term natural fertilizer. Topdressing regularly will also help smooth our bumps in your lawn and encourage a dense, lush lawn. Topdressing MUST be completed at the same time as aeration to be fully effective.
- De-thatching – De-thatching your lawn is a vital part of having a successful, green, weed-free lawn. At Lawn Dog we offer a healthier alternative to your lawn than standard mechanical De-Thatching, it is called, Liquid De Thatching. Liquid De Thatching focuses on composting thatch faster by encouraging microbial activity at the soil surface and increasing heat. This exothermic release by increased soil activity will breakdown thatch from the soil level up. Thatch is quickly reduced and the organic matter is captured as a food source for your turf. The initial application may yield a green-up flush as nutrients that were held in the thatch are released.
